Explore PA’s Ghost Town Trail: A Must-Ride Destination for Every E-Biker

If you’ve ever been to Pennsylvania, you’ve most likely heard of one of the state’s most popular e-biking trails: The Ghost Town Trail. This 54-mile gorgeous trail is centered in the heart of PA, stretching from Blacklick to Ebensburg, with a 20-mile C&I extension. It even features a two-mile mixed-surface connection that stretches from the C&I extension to Duman Lake County Park, giving riders several spots for camping, fishing, and picnicking.

Trail History

Although the extensions made to the trail are relatively new, it has been around for 35 years. After the Kovalchick Salvage Company donated 16 miles of former railroad, the Indiana County Parks & Trails and the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority began construction on the path.

In 1993, the Cambria and Indiana Railroad donated an additional four-mile section, known today as the Rexis Branch. As the years passed, more land was donated, allowing for continuous expansion and improvement to the trail. Within 35 years, the Ghost Town Trail quickly grew from 16 miles to 35 miles.

In 2026, a $4.6 million expansion project completed the C&I extension loop, which included the construction of two bridges over Cardiff Road and Beulah Road, a pedestrian box culvert under Church Street, and the reclamation of former mine lands.

The trail’s official completion turned it into a 32-mile complete loop, giving it the title of the second-largest looped rail trail in the United States. Riders can now experience nearly the entirety of the trail without retracing their steps.
